The detail

Every Minurphy tarpaulin is cut, welded, and eyeletted in our KZN factory. We have been making covers for SA farmers, transporters, event crews, and construction sites since 1994. No job too small, no job too big.

Built for SA conditions

The coastal salt air, highveld UV, and Karoo dust all kill cheap imported tarps fast. Our PVC comes in three weights, all UV-stabilised and rated for multi-season outdoor use:

  • 550 gsm medium-duty — shelter, sport, leisure, light transport
  • 700 gsm heavy-duty — trucks, stockpiles, multi-season outdoor
  • 800 gsm extra heavy-duty — mining, construction, long-term industrial

Canvas is 420 to 680 gsm, treated for rot and mildew resistance. We pick materials based on the job, not what is cheapest to stock. The quote always explains the reasoning.

Custom, not catalogue

Tell us the shape, we cut it. Rectangles, circles, triangular awnings, tractor covers, haystack covers, trailer tops, stage backdrops, pool covers, sandpit covers. Eyelets go in at 500 mm spacing by default, closer on request.

Add pockets for poles, zips for access, clear PVC windows for visibility, Velcro for quick release, or storm straps for wind country. Every tarp is built for how you will actually use it.

How the tarp is made

Our standard PVC workflow: we pattern-cut on the factory floor, heat-weld the seams (no stitching, no leak path), punch brass eyelets on a hydraulic press at 500 mm spacing, and reinforce corners with double-layered patches. Every tarp is inspected before it ships.

For canvas, we cut and double-stitch, reinforce corners with webbing patches, and finish with brass eyelets or heavy-duty grommets depending on use. Waterproof treatment is applied after stitching so the seams seal.

Common questions

Questions we answer most days on the factory floor. If yours is not here, just ask.

  • PVC is fully waterproof and best for long-term outdoor cover, stockpiles, and equipment. Canvas breathes, so it suits vehicle covers, trailers, and livestock where trapped condensation would do damage. Most clients use both for different jobs.
