The detail

Minurphy has supplied KOI breeders across KZN and Gauteng for over a decade. Our vats are food-safe, RF-welded, and sized to order. Breeders, show organisers, and private collectors all use the same core build, sized to the job.

Why welded seams matter

A stitched seam leaks. A welded seam does not. For fish transport, that is the whole point. Our 900 gsm PVC is RF-welded in our Durban factory, giving a clean, continuous bond with no stitch holes, no fibres, no contamination risk.

Stitched vats sweat through the thread line. Over days of transport that is a slow drip and a stressed fish. Welded vats hold water like a rigid tank.

Sizes to order

Most breeders want 2 to 3 m diameter vats at 0.8 m depth for holding stock. Transporters prefer shallower, wider vats that fit a trailer. Show organisers want rectangular judging vats with viewing windows. Tell us the shape and the use, we build it.

We include collapsible frame options for anyone who needs to pack down between jobs. Standard kit is a galvanised steel ring frame that dismantles in 10 minutes.

Fittings, covers, and extras

Standard: 50 mm bulkhead drain. Optional: net bird cover, shade canopy, split-panel access, 75 mm show-drain, aerator mounting points. We also build bag-carry kits so a 3 m vat rolls into a boot.

Transport and setup

A 3 m by 0.8 m vat weighs around 22 kg dry and rolls into a bag that fits any bakkie. Setup is two people, 10 minutes. Filled weight is whatever your water is, the vat holds the load on a reinforced PVC floor with a frame ring at the top.

  • Yes. We use food-safe PVC with RF-welded (not stitched) seams so there are no stitch holes, no fibres, and no contamination risk. The material is the same grade used for potable water tank liners.
