Why buy custom covers from a KZN factory

On-site measuring, 3 to 10 day turnaround, no minimum order. Here is what you actually get by buying custom covers from a local Durban manufacturer.

If you type "custom tarpaulin" into Google you will get a long list of importers and wholesalers, many of whom do not actually manufacture anything. The cover you order from them is cut from a roll somewhere else, sometimes in China, sometimes in a backyard workshop with no QC. What you lose by going that route is real. Here is what you get by going direct to a KZN factory instead.

On-site measuring in greater Durban

For any job in the eThekwini metro, we send someone to measure. That is the difference between a cover that fits and a cover that almost fits. We measure the actual opening, account for hems and eyelet spacing, and take photos of attachment points so nothing is a surprise in production.

For our blinds and awnings line this matters a lot. Restaurants, retail shops, and residential patios all have quirks, and a 5 mm mistake in measurement can mean a cover that fouls on a beam or does not seal at the sides.

Outside KZN we work from measurements you send. We provide a measuring guide and WhatsApp support. It works, but in-person is better.

3 to 10 working day turnaround

An imported cover takes 6 to 12 weeks from order to delivery. Our factory runs a 3 to 10 day lead time for custom work. For jobs with a hard deadline, say a restaurant fit-out opening on a specific date, we schedule into our queue and hit the deadline.

The trade-off is that we cannot beat a bulk importer on price for 500 identical units. If you need 500 identical tarps on a tender, we will quote and probably come in within 10 to 15 percent. For anything under 100 units, or for genuinely custom work, we win on every metric.

No minimum order

One custom cover. One bakkie cover. One KOI transport vat. All normal orders on our factory floor. A lot of importers have a minimum of 10 or 50 units because it is not worth their time to cut a single piece. For us, single orders are about 40 percent of the daily run.

Photos and sketches accepted

You do not need a CAD drawing or a formal spec sheet. Phone photos, a rough pencil sketch, a voice note describing the shape, all of those work. After 30 years we can usually read between the lines. When we cannot, we ask, we do not guess.

For weird geometries (stage canvas, curved blinds, multi-panel partitions), we often come out and measure before quoting. Better to spend 30 minutes on site than to deliver something that does not fit.

KZN logistics advantage

Durban to Gauteng is 6 hours by road. A courier pickup from our factory lands in Sandton the next business day. For KZN orders we often deliver ourselves on the same or next working day, which is useful when something has gone wrong and the original cover needs replacing fast.

Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, East London all get tracked courier delivery, usually 2 to 4 business days.

Support that actually answers

Every order has a WhatsApp line for questions. If something goes wrong, you talk to the person who made the cover, not a call centre. Warranty claims are handled inside the factory, not by email escalation.
